SELLING YOUR ANTIQUES

When Selling at Durrants Auction Rooms, closing dates for entries into the Fine Art and Specialist Sales close two weeks prior to the sale.

This allows time for cataloguing, printing & distribution of the catalogue.

Our standard Vendor's commission of 12.5% plus VAT will be charged up to £1000 - rate negotiable thereafter. In addition, each lot will be subject to a lotting fee of £2 plus VAT.

Reserves are accepted or can be arranged with our advice. Should a reserved item fail to sell it is automatically re-offered the following month and subsequent months reducing the reserves by 25% each month until the item is sold. Alternatively the item can be withdrawn & retrieved upon instructions from the vendor.

Entries for these sales are determined entirely at our discretion.

Buying at Durrants Auction Rooms again is straight forward. All purchasers require a bidding number, which is exclusive to them.

Once registered (cost £1) this number must be used whenever making a purchase. Bidding is the same as at all other auctions. We also operate a reliable commission bidding system and a telephone bidding system with five phone lines.

Our buyer's premium is 15% + VAT which is added to the hammer price.

Commission Bidding

Durrants use a commission bidding system for buyers who cannot get to our auctions. There is a closing time that all bids must be submitted by 9am on the day of the sale.

Just follow these steps:

Commission Bidding Arrangements for Payments - In order to avoid delay in clearing purchases buyers who are unknown to us are advised to make arrangements for payment prior to the sale. If such arrangements are not made, cheques will need to be cleared before purchases are removed.
